Strike Zone – Jesse Litsch vs. Mike Mussina

with 7 comments

Last time it was Larry Bucknor with a major crush on the Moose, but now Larry Vanover- supposedly with the smallest inside to righties strike zone in the league last year, was calling everything remotely close at the belt to both sides of the plate for Mussina:

1) Mike Mussina

While Litsch was mostly probing the bottom of the strike zone and coming up empty:

2) Jesse Litsch:

  2. In half-hearted defence of the Ump, Musina’s pitches seemed to be focussed in a smaller area than Litsch’s….which could lead to a perception of “command” and influence calls…..i’m not sayin’, i’m just sayin’

  5. wow 9 or 10 strikes outside the zone compared to 2 for litsch… I wonder if he’ll get some kind of beatdown on the questec cause this is horrible.

  6. I wish we had this in the early nineties. I used to joke (I wasn’t joking) that Maddux and Glavine would put the first pitch of the game on the outside corner for the Ump and never have to throw another strike the rest of the game. They’d just show the ump they had the corner, then put every other pitch four inches off the plate and the umps would give them the calls.
