J.P. Takes it All Back

with 8 comments

Ricciardi said on Thursday evening that he called Walt Jocketty, the general manager of the Reds, to apologize to him, and he was in the process of contacting Dunn directly. “I let my guard down” said Ricciardi. “I apologize to him. I have to be better than that… Unfortunately, you get caught in the heat of the moment. I don’t even know Adam Dunn.”

  1. Well, J.P. may have enraged one of the most feared sluggers in the major leagues that is somehow on the trading block, right before facing him for the only time in the next five or so years… and J.P. may have gotten to talk to the guy’s GM about an apology instead of a trade… but at least J.P. didn’t let a radio show caller get the best of him. SEVEN MORE YEARS!

  2. “but at least J.P. didn’t let a radio show caller get the best of him”

Hahaha…well put. That’s what gets me about this. Zero point to it. J.P.’s whole job is basically to ignore and deflect the ire of fans. I guess he’s getting increasingly ticked off at back-seat drivers acting like it’s as easy to find and make trades as it is in fantasy baseball, but dropping what is obviously a bombshell to win an argument with Joe phone-in is just silly (and unprofessional).

  3. ” I don’t even know Adam Dunn.”

    Does anyone really know anyone?

  4. Are we talking in the deep, existential, can-anyone-really-know-anyone-but-themselves sense, or in baseball terms? Evidently nobody in baseball has even heard of each other, but they still enjoy slinging rather slanderous insults for no particular reason.

    P.S. Joanna: you smell.

  5. All a big smokescreen – JP now will trade for Dunn and heads will explode!

    Or not.

  6. Haha- I was actually thinking the same thing (jokingly). After the Barajas incident, I believe anything can happen. Maybe it’s just J.P’s sly way of getting an audience with him and Jockety.

  8. If nothing else, you gotta give Dunn credit for his “loonies and twonies” joke. He really hit that one out of the park, as it were.

Heyo! We’ll be here all week! Try the veal!
