The Mockingbird

Why would B.J. Ryan throw a fastball down the middle on 0-2 to hand the game to the worlds worst mustache, you ask? Well, that was actually a hanging slider. And Barajas emphasized DOWN by turning his glove upside down on the ground before the windup. That pitch was not down…

What a gift- the movement on it was somewhere between a slider and a cutter (a Litschball?). It just slipped. Not to go apocalyptic, but I think it might be fair now that he’s not squeaking out of innings quite as well to wonder if B.J. doesn’t quite have the feel for his pitches after his surgery…that was a doozy of an inning, with many pitches missing the target by over a foot.

Oh yeah, and I can’t wait for Rance to come back so I can take my parting shots and stop listening to the TV broadcast. Jamie Campbell went positively apoplectic as that landed in the third deck. Why does he do that?? What a sick, sick, man…

  2. Three words for Jamie Campbell: “Know your audience.”

It’s one thing to get caught up in the moment, but you’ve got to know that you’re turning off whatever fan base this team has when you go ape shit for the other team’s accomplishments.

This loss and the Anaheim walk off were crushing defeats, and hearing JC squealing with glee makes us hate him that much more.

    Yeah, we said HATE.

  3. I remember in the last game he pitched before TJ surgery, BJ’s release point was very inconsistent (according to Gameday), but I don’t remember seeing whether it was consistent when he was healthy, or how it’s been since he’s come back. Does anyone know?

  4. You can see it for this season at Josh Kalk’s page: (although for some reason he has all his fastballs as cutters). I sorta clear away from that side of pitch f/x because it was all over the place last year.
