Hurting me Softly
The good news: Adam Lind is continuing to crush the ball in AAA. He has 18 RBI in his last 10 games and is hitting .326 with 2 HR and a triple over that span. His OPS this season is now .926, and his OBP is .390. Obviously he’s ready, given a legitimate opportunity. Nobody kills the ball with patience like that and then can’t hack it at the next level. Nobody. (By the way, would J.P. really be holding him back if he thought there was any chance his job was on the line if the Jays didn’t make the playoffs, like everyone seems to assume?)
The bad news: J.P. has officially announced that the old plan of leaving Lind to rot in AAA is back in effect after his failings over 20 AB, and the team is busy pumping out praise of Wilkerson/Stewart/Inglett.
The much worse news: The guy we are paying ~10 million this year, who the only possible short-term reason for dumping was to free a space for Lind, is tearing the @#$@$ cover off the ball. Since leaving the Jays, Frank Thomas is hitting .305 with an OBP over .400, 4 HR and 16 RBI in a little under a month.
The really scary news: We travel into his yard on Tuesday. And despite all the “mutual agreement” crapola that J.P. smeared all over this one once the writing was on the wall, I’m not so sure he’s ready to make nice…
