Prediction: Livan Hernandez is Screwed

with 2 comments

I’ve been working on umpire analysis of the pitch f/x data for a while now. It’s almost finished but I’m still writing it up the final conclusions. One thing I CAN tell you is that Larry Vanover, tonight’s Home Plate umpire, has the smallest Left Hand (inside to righties) strike zone of any umpire, by a reasonable amount. My prediction- Hernandez, who needs at least a couple inches off the plate to be effective, is going to be squeezed and ineffective tonight against Arizona. He will not get the back-door curve called, or anything tailing away from lefties.

  1. So, did it happen? From what I could tell Hernandez unraveled very quickly and should’ve been pulled before he gave up that homer.
